Of course, you would say, I know what I am seeing. But are you really?
If your glasses are all covered with dirt, you may see very little or nothing at all. That does not mean there is very little or nothing out there. I think you get the point.
Most of us see things through our assumptions and belief, and seldom stop to examine what they are. Alan Alda, an Actor, Write, and Director, is quoted as having said “Begin challenging your own assumptions. Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.”
I say, if you want to go further, why not choose your assumptions that would take you where you want to go? It is OK as long as you are respectful of other peoples rights and, possibly, desires.
